SOS, IT IS US, DOLPHINS!!

WE ALL REMEMBER FLIPPER, THAT GREAT DOLPHIN WE ALL WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE AS OUR NEIGHBOUR, OR PET, RIGHT?. WELL, UNFORTUNATELY, THERE SEEMS TO BE PEOPLE THAT EITHER HAVE NEVER WATCHED FLIPPER, OR IGNORE THESE CREATURES ARE FAR TOO SMART AND HELPFUL TO BE KILLED.

THIS IS TAKING PLACE IN TAIJI (JAPAN), PERU AND IN THE FAROE ISLANDS,                 “    WHERE DOLPHINS ARE TRADITIONALLY CONSIDERED FOOD AND ARE KILLED IN HARPOON OR DRIVE HUNTS   ”. CERTAINLY, HUMANS ARE A THREAT FOR DOLPHINS. PEOPLE ARE DUMPING WASTE AT SEA, MAKING DOLPHINS SUFFER FROM INFECTIONS. THESE INFECTIONS UNABLE THEM TO SWIM, AND THEREFORE, THEY ARE BOUND TO DIE. BESIDES THIS HUMANS ALSO DUMP AGRICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL WASTE, HEAVY METALS AND PESTICIDES, AMONG OTHERS.

IN ADDTION TO THIS, “    DOLPHIN MEAT IS CONSUMED IN A SMALL NUMBER OF COUNTRIES WORLD-WIDE, WHICH INCLUDE JAPAN, THE FAROE ISLANDS AND PERU (WHERE IT IS REFERRED TO AS “CHANCHO MARINO” OR “SEA PORK” )    “. THIS IS TAKING PLACE IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT HEALTH TESTS HAVE SHOWN THAT DOLPHIN MEAT CONTAINS HIGH LEVELS OF MERCURY.

THESE VIOLENT ACTIONS AGAINST SUCH WONDERFUL MAMMALS SHOULD BE FORBIDDEN, IF WE, HUMAN BEINGS,  CONSIDER OURSELVES CIVIC AND COHERENT. HUMAN BEINGS, BEING CONSIDERED SO BRILLIANT AT REASONING SHOULD BE COHERENT AND PRESERVE SUCH IMPRESSIVE CREATURES.

MOST PEOPLE LOVE DOLPHINS. THERE ARE A LOT OF REASONS TO REALLY LOVE THEM. ONE OF THE REASONS IS THEIR AMAZING LEAPS, ABOVE THE WATER SURFACE.  WE MUST SAY THAT THEIR LEAPS ARE NOT JUST FOR ENJOYMENT, BUT FOR OTHER INTERESTING REASONS SUCH AS  “DISLODGING PARASITES, NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION, SOCIAL DISPLAYS, ORIENTATION, SAVING ENERGY AND FOR FIGHTING    “. BOTTLENOSE DOLPHINS ARE SO SOPHISTICATED THAT THEY HAVE THEIR OWN UNIQUE WHISTLE,  WHICH CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE REST OF THE BOTTLENOSE ONES . CONSEQUENTLY, WE CAN SAY  BOTTLENOSE DOLPHINS HAVE A STRONG MEMORY AS FOR THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF WHISTLES.

RESEARCH ON DOLPHINS HAS SHOWN    “    THEY HAVE HIGH INTELLIGENCE IN COMPARISON TO OTHER ANIMALS AND SHOULD BE SEEN AS NON-HUMAN PERSONS, WHO SHOULD HAVE THEIR OWN SPECIFIC RIGHTS.  IT IS THEREFORE MORALLY UNACCEPTABLE TO KEEP THEM CAPTIVE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PURPOSES, OR TO KILL THEM, EITHER INTENTIONALLY FOR CONSUMPTION, OR UNINTENTIONALLY , AS BY CATCH”.

ACCORDING TO SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, DOLPHINS ARE SOCIAL AND LIVE IN SCHOOLS OF UP TO TWELVE OF THEM. THEY ESTABLISH STRONG SOCIAL BONDS, AND SO THEY OFTEN STAY WITH INJURED AND ILL INDIVIDUALS,  IN SOME CASES,  BRINGING THEM TO THE SURFACE SO THAT THEY CAN BREATHE. DOLPHINS HAVE PROVED TO BE REALLY BRILLIANT LIFEGUARDS IN MANY CASES,  BECAUSE “ THEY HAVE PROTECTED SWIMMERS FROM SHARKS, BY SWIMMING IN CIRCLES AROUND THE SWIMMERS, OR CHARGING THE SHARKS TO MAKE THEM GO AWAY ”.

WE ALL KNOW THE ANCIENT GREEKS WERE GREAT INTELLECTUALS, WHO WROTE MANY RELEVANT BOOKS.  WELL, THE ANCIENT GREEKS, AS WELL, WELCOMED DOLPHINS.  DOLPHINS APPEARED IN MANY ANCIENT GREEK COINS: IN MANY OF THESE COINS WE CAN SEE A BOY, A MAN, OR A DEITY RIDING ON THE BACK OF A DOLPHIN.

“ REPORTS OF COOPERATIVE HUMAN-DOLPHIN FISHING DATES BACK TO THE ANCIENT ROMANS.  NOWADAYS,  A HUMAN-DOLPHIN PARTNERSHIP OPERATES IN BRAZIL.  HERE, DOLPHINS DRIVE FISH TOWARDS FISHERMEN,   WAITING ALONG THE SHORE, AND SIGNAL THE MEN TO CAST THEIR NETS.  THE DOLPHIN´S REWARD IS THE FISH THAT ESCAPE THE NETS    “. FOR SURE, DOLPHINS HAVE HELPED US A LOT SO FAR. THEY HAVE EVEN PROVIDED A LOT OF HELP FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS, WITH PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES.  DOLPHINS HAVE PROVED TO BE EQUALLY HELPFUL TREATING PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION,  AND TURNING IT INTO MODERATE.

EVERYONE OF US IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT IS GOING ON ,  IF WE TURN A BLIND EYE TO THE FACT THAT SOME COUNTRIES, LIKE JAPAN, PERU AND THE FAROE ISLANDS ARE KILLING DOLPHINS FOR FOOD. CULTURAL, HISTORICAL AND ECONOMIC REASONS ARE NOTHING BUT CHEAP EXCUSES TO KILL THESE HEROIC BEINGS.  THESE TERRIBLE ACTIONS AGAINST DOLPHINS BY JAPANESE, FAROEN AND PERUAN PEOPLE DEPICT THEMSELVES. THIS IS SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE ,  AND SO WE SHOULD NOT GIVE ANY CREDIT TO PEOPLE WHO CARRY OUT SUCH DOLPHIN VANDALISM.

THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL OF US TO DO SOMETHING GOOD.  IT IS FAIR TO DEFEND DOLPHINS,  SINCE THEY HAVE HELPED US SO MUCH SO FAR. I WOULD GLADLY GIVE ANYONE MONEY RIGHT NOW TO PUT AN END TO THESE ROOTHLESS PRACTICES. I MEAN IT!  JUST THINKING OF HOW MUCH PAIN ALL THE KILLED LOVELY DOLPHINS MUST HAVE SUFFERED WHILE THEY WERE BEING PUNCHED BY THE JAPANESE, FAROEN AND PERUAN PEOLE HURTS ME BADLY.

WE ALL PAY OUR TAXES,  SO WE ARE ENTITLED TO DEFEND OUR PRINCIPLES.  DOLPHINS ARE PART OF OUR PRINCIPLES, BECAUSE THEY HAVE PROVEN TO BE ADVANTAGEOUS AND SO HELPFUL TO HUMAN BEINGS THAT WE FEEL WE MUST MAKE IT UP TO THEM.  RESPECT FOR SMART, HELPFUL MAMMALS, NOT KILLING THEM, IS ONE OF OUR PRINCIPLES. IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO DEMAND PROTECTION OF DOLPHINS FROM JAPAN,  PERU AND THE FAROE ISLANDS.  THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE BUT SERIOUSLY.  I AM TALKING ABOUT POLITICIANS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD.  THEY SHOULD BE SETTING UP URGENT MEETINGS WITH JAPANESE, PERUAN AND FAROES AUTHORITIES TO STOP THESE KILLINGS.  THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE TACKLED RIGHT AWAY.  NO DELAYS ARE FAIR,   CONCERNING SUCH INTELLIGENT NON-HUMAN BEINGS.

LET US FINISH UP BY SAYING IT IS ALL UP TO OUR POLITICIANS.  WE NEED POLITICIANS TO TAKE THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES SERIOUSLY,  BEING EFFECTIVE AND NOT OVERLOOKING WHAT IS RELEVANT AND ADVANTAGEOUS TO PEOPLE. WE,  HUMAN BEINGS,  LOVE DOLPHINS. THEY HELP US IN SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS,  AND THEY MAKE US SMILE SO MUCH THAT WE WANT TO STAND BY DOLPHINSWE WANT OUR POLITICIANS NOT TO WASTE ANY MORE TIME,  SET UP URGENT MEETINGS,  AND TELL JAPANESE (TAIJIES),  FAROES AND PERUVIAN PEOPLE TO QUIT KILLING OUR FRIENDLY COMPANIONS.

I AM SOLD ON THE FACT DOLPHINS DESERVE RESPECT AND MUCH MORE,  AND FOR THIS WE NEED COOPERATION BETWEEN MARINE ACTIVISTS AND THE MAJOR TUNA COMPANIES.  THE TUNA COMPANIES NEED TO CHANGE THE TYPE OF NETS TO CATCH TUNA, BUT NOT DOLPHINS.  THIS COOPERATION WILL COME TO TURNS IF POLITICIANS IMPLEMENT HIGHER SALARIES ON BOTH PARTS,  TAKEN BOTH SIDES RESPECT THE DOLPHIN RESPECT TREATY (DRT). THIS DRT ,  WE HAVE JUST CREATED,  WOULD IMPEDE ANYONE TO KILL DOLPHINS.  HAVING PASSED THIS TREATY WOULD MEAN POLITICIANS HAD ALREADY CHANGED THEIR VALUES,  BEING CONCERNED WITH IMPORTANT BEINGS,   AS DOLPHINS ARE.

SO AS TO HELP DOLPHINS SURVIVE WE NEED OUR POLITICIANS TO PUT THEIR MIND TO PRESERVE DOLPHINS LIVES.  YES!  THAT IS REAL BUSINESS!,  THAT IS  WISDOM!,  THAT IS WHAT WE ALL NEED FROM OUR POLITICIANS!. WE NEED OUR POLITICIANS TO CATCH OUR DRIFT AND BE CONCERNED WITH WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO US,  AND  THEY COULD START BY BEING GENEROUS. WE,  WORLD INHABITANTS,  ARE HUNGRY FOR POLITICIANS GENEROSITY. OUR POLITICIANS COULD START BEING GENEROUS CUTTING BACK ON IRRELEVANT COSTS, SUCH AS PERKS AND EXPENSES. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY FOR THE POWERS THAT BE  TO GAIN CREDIBILITY,  AND WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT,  TO DO WHAT IT HAS TO BE DONE ACCORDING TO LIFE GOOD PRACTICES.

After coming back from the US she started her undergraduate studies at Deusto University. By this time she had already lived in Santurtzi for seventeen years. It was 1983 when she and her family moved to Getxo. At Deusto University she studied English Linguistics for five years. She was twenty three years old when she got her undergraduate degree. She spent about three months during three different summers in England. During two of those summers she was an exchange student, and another summer she was working as an au pair, living with an English family. During that year and a half that she was studying over there she was also working as an Associate Professor giving Spanish classes at Indiana University. After working on the double master, She decided to go back to Spain and work as an English teacher at an English school in Galdakao for a year. At the same time that she was working, she was studying in order to sit a competitive exam. She went to Madrid to take it, and got the job she wanted. She became a civil servant, and she started working as an English teacher at a high school in 1991. By the year 2004 she had already been teaching for thirteen years in four different high schools, giving lessons to secondary students. In 2004 she decided to quit teaching and start painting as a self-made painter. You see them all together and you see a real celebration of life, of what life should be, of happiness and love. Apart from painting, she is very keen on music and photography. About music, it must be said that she was very much into it during some years in the past, specially when she was taking Classical and electric guitar lessons and writing her own songs. She has got four demos with songs sung, both in English and Spanish. She performed as a singer in some places in the year 2000 after recording all her original songs. She is a hard-working person and a very good listener. She is one of those really positive people that finds solutions to almost anything you can think of. She enjoys creative work, either in painting, photography, dancing, singing, writing or cooking. She also enjoys herself with those little things in life like going out for a stroll in the country, listening to all kinds of music, good company, a good book, helping people in need, taking a nap, or just watching a funny movie. She is really interested in the protection of animals rights.
